VDE, ZVEH and ZVEI associations to jointly exhibit smart living at IFA 2024

Back VDE, ZVEH and ZVEI associations to jointly exhibit smart living at IFA 2024

The VDE, ZVEH and ZVEI will jointly present their solutions for electrification and digitalization in the consumer sector at IFA 2024, the world’s largest consumer electronics and home appliances show, which will be held 6–10 September 2024 in Berlin, Germany. This will be the 100th anniversary of the IFA show.

The three associations will be demonstrating how smart and connected ideas can make everyday life more convenient and safer while also helping to save energy. They will be showcasing many of the smart innovations from the e-industry that are having a positive impact on our everyday lives in the House of Smart Living (Hall 1.2, Stand 110). Here, trade fair visitors can find out how energy can be saved with the help of building automation and what contribution modern digital building technology can make to a climate-neutral future. At the joint stand, visitors can also experience how professions in the electrical industry contribute to climate protection: with the Eco Score Challenge, visitors virtually immerse themselves in a building and design it to be as energy-efficient as possible. The technical solutions for this already exist outside of virtual reality. Consistent electrification and digitalization as well as the use of smart technologies can significantly reduce energy consumption in buildings and the carbon footprint.

"In order to secure a future worth living for us and future generations, the course towards sustainability must be set right now,” said Ansgar Hinz, CEO of the VDE Group. “The elementary and ubiquitous technologies of electrical and digital engineering, combined with our experience and openness to new technologies, are helping us to shape precisely this sustainable future.”

"Buildings are not only becoming more electric, they are also becoming smarter and therefore more interactive,” said ZVEH managing director Alexander Neuhäuser. “In the House of Smart Living, we show technically feasible functions with which the building can adapt independently to the needs of its residents and users. At the same time, the building adapts to its surroundings as part of the neighborhood, the energy system and the information network. The building thus becomes an intelligent, interactive platform for living, working, generating energy and satisfying many other needs of society."

"We urgently need a turnaround in efficiency in the building sector in order to make sustainable CO2 savings. This is made possible by the smart interplay of electrification, digitalization and automation. This will allow us to save up to 65% of primary energy. If we cleverly generate, use, store and distribute electrical energy in buildings and neighborhoods, we not only reduce operating costs in the long term, but also make a significant contribution to achieving climate targets. However, this also means that the electrical infrastructure in older buildings needs to be upgraded," said Sarah Bäumchen, managing director of ZVEI.
